Permits & Health – It's crucial to know that a special permit is required to visit Nathula Lake, and currently, only Indian nationals are allowed access. The lake is situated at a very high altitude (around 14,140 feet or 4,310 meters), so I recommend being aware of the risks of altitude sickness. It's wise to acclimatize properly, often by spending a day or two in Gangtok , before heading up. Always carry warm clothing, regardless of the season.Accessibility & Duration
Road access – Access to Nathula Lake is primarily by road from Gangtok . The journey itself offers scenic views, but road conditions can vary, especially after rainfall or snowfall. A visit, including travel time from Gangtok, typically takes a full day. There are limited commercial facilities directly at the lake, so it's best to carry any essentials you might need.
