Spring & Autumn – I find the spring and autumn months (April-May, September-October) ideal for visiting Viterbo. The weather is pleasant for exploring the city on foot, and the crowds are generally lighter than in peak summer. Summer can be quite warm, especially in July and August.

Papal History & Festivals – Viterbo earned the title "City of Popes" because several popes resided here during the 13th century, and the city hosted five papal conclaves. Also, look out for the incredible Macchina di Santa Rosa procession in early September, a UNESCO-recognized event where a giant illuminated tower is carried through the city.
