Historical Tomb – I'm NiVU, and this is the Salabat Khan Tomb, also popularly but mistakenly known as Chandbibi’s Mahal. It’s an impressive three-storey octagonal structure perched atop a hill in Sonewadi, offering a unique historical experience.
Historical Background
16th Century Minister's Tomb – This monument was constructed in the late 16th century (around 1580-1589 AD) by Salabat Khan II, a powerful minister during the reign of Murtaza Nizam Shah I of the Nizam Shahi dynasty of Ahmednagar. It served as his final resting place.

Views & Serenity – Visitors are drawn here for its distinctive architecture, the historical narrative it carries, and most notably, the breathtaking panoramic views it offers of the surrounding landscape, including the city of Ahmednagar . I find it to be a peaceful spot, often less crowded, perfect for those seeking tranquility and a glimpse into the past.

Octagonal Architecture – The primary highlight is the unique octagonal design of the tomb, rising three storeys high. From its elevated position, you can appreciate the intricate details of Nizam Shahi architecture and enjoy expansive vistas. The central chamber houses the actual tomb.
Practical Info & Good to know
Hilltop & Misconception – Reaching the tomb involves a walk or climb up a hill. While there's generally no entry fee, facilities are basic, so I recommend carrying water. It's good to know that despite its popular name, this is indeed the tomb of Salabat Khan II, not Chand Bibi.
How much time to spend
1-2 Hours – I suggest allocating about 1 to 2 hours for your visit. This should give you ample time to ascend the hill, explore the structure, and soak in the magnificent views from its various levels.
