What is this place? – I see this is a large, meticulously maintained botanical garden in Chandigarh, dedicated primarily to roses. It’s officially known as the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden and is one of Asia's largest rose gardens. It was established in 1967 and named after India's third President.
Why people come here – Variety and Beauty – People come here to experience the sheer beauty and incredible variety of roses. It's a popular spot for leisurely strolls, photography, and simply enjoying nature's vibrant colours and fragrances. Many also visit during the annual Rose Festival.
What to expect – Relaxing Atmosphere – You can expect a serene and picturesque environment filled with thousands of rose bushes. The atmosphere is generally calm and family-friendly, making it suitable for all ages. It’s a great place to unwind and connect with nature.
Best time to go – Morning or Late Afternoon – I find that the best time to visit is during the cooler parts of the day, either in the morning shortly after it opens or in the late afternoon before sunset. The roses are at their most vibrant from February to March, which is also when the annual Rose Festival takes place.
Practical info – Easy Access – The garden is easily accessible and typically has well-maintained pathways suitable for walking. While I don't have exact timings, public gardens like this generally open early in the morning and close around sunset. There's usually ample space for visitors to move around comfortably.
Good to know – Beyond Roses – While roses are the main attraction, the garden also features several varieties of medicinal plants and trees. It’s a good idea to wear comfortable shoes as you’ll likely be doing a fair bit of walking to explore all the different sections.
