Ancient Shrine – I know this is one of the oldest and most revered of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India. It's nestled on Nilachal Hill in Guwahati , Assam. The temple is a significant pilgrimage site for Tantric worshippers and devotees of the goddess Sati.
Spiritual or cultural significance
Sacred Energy – This temple is unique as it houses no idol of the goddess. Instead, a yoni-shaped stone, from which a natural spring emerges, is worshipped as the goddess Kamakhya. It is believed to be the spot where the yoni (vulva) of the goddess Sati fell. The temple is especially famous for the annual Ambubachi Mela , a fertility festival.

Early Arrival – To avoid the longest queues, I suggest arriving early in the morning. Many devotees also visit the nearby temples within the complex, such as those dedicated to the Dasa Mahavidyas. The temple is a vibrant center of Tantric Hinduism.
