Karakhanid Legacy – The Burana Tower was originally part of a large mosque complex in Balasagun, a capital city of the Karakhanid Khanate. It's believed to have been built in the 11th century. I've learned that it once stood around 45 meters tall, but an earthquake in the 15th century toppled its upper half, leaving the 25-meter structure you see today.
