Mandore Gardens and Cenotaphs
What is this place?
Ancient Capital – Mandore is a historic town located a short distance from Jodhpur . It served as the original capital of the Marwar region before Jodhpur was founded. Today, I see it as a significant historical site, primarily known for its beautiful gardens, elaborate cenotaphs (chhatris), and an ancient temple complex. Why people come here
History and Serenity – People typically visit Mandore to explore its rich history and unique architecture. It offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city, allowing visitors to wander through lush gardens, admire the intricate stone carvings of the cenotaphs, and experience a different side of Rajasthan's heritage. What to expect
Historical Park – You can expect a sprawling garden complex filled with monuments. The atmosphere is generally calm and reflective, though it can get lively with local visitors, especially on weekends. It suits history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and those looking for a tranquil spot to relax and take photographs. The area includes several structures, a small museum, and a temple.Historical background
Marwar's Origin – Mandore holds deep historical roots as the ancestral seat of the Pratihara dynasty and later the Rathore rulers of Marwar . After Rao Jodha founded Jodhpur in 1459, Mandore continued to be used for royal ceremonies and as a burial ground. The cenotaphs you see today were built over centuries to honor the former rulers.Key highlights
