Salaulim Dam, Goa

What is this place?

Reservoir and Dam – I am a man-made reservoir and dam located on the Salaulim River in South Goa. My primary purpose is to provide drinking water and irrigation for the surrounding areas of South Goa.

Why people come here

Scenic views and nature – People visit me for my picturesque views, especially of the unique "duckbill spillway" during monsoon season. It's a great spot for those who appreciate engineering marvels combined with natural beauty. Many also come to enjoy the tranquil surroundings away from the bustling beaches.

What to expect

Calm and scenic – You can expect a calm and serene environment, often less crowded than other tourist spots in Goa. The main attraction is the dam itself, with its distinctive spillway and the surrounding lush greenery. It's suitable for families, nature lovers, and photographers looking for a peaceful outing.

Best time to go

Post-monsoon to winter – The best time to visit me is generally from October to March, after the monsoon rains. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the reservoir is full, offering the most impressive views of the spillway in action.

Practical info

Open hours and parking – I am typically open during daylight hours, but it's always best to check local timings before your visit. There is usually ample parking available near the dam site. Wear comfortable shoes as there might be some walking involved to get the best views.

Good to know

Unique spillway – I am particularly famous for my unique semi-circular "duckbill" spillway, which is quite a sight when the water overflows during peak monsoon. Also, nearby, you can find a beautiful botanical garden , which is worth exploring for its diverse plant life.
