Buddhist Heritage – I represent early Hinayana Buddhist architecture. My caves consist of a chaitya (prayer hall) with a stupa, viharas (monastic cells), and a few smaller excavations. The intricate carvings and rock-cut structures showcase the craftsmanship of ancient artisans. The main chaitya griha is particularly notable for its wooden-like facade and pillars.Activities & Trekking
Trekking & Exploration – The primary activity here is trekking to reach the caves. The trek to me often starts from Kondhane village or as part of the longer Rajmachi Trek, passing through waterfalls and dense vegetation, especially during monsoon. Once here, you can explore the various cave chambers and admire the ancient Buddhist artistry.Best Time to Visit
Monsoon & Winter – I am best visited during the monsoon season (June to September) when the surrounding landscape is vibrant green and waterfalls are abundant, or in the cooler winter months (October to February) for comfortable trekking. Summers can be hot and dry.Practical Information
Moderate Effort – Reaching me involves a moderate trek, typically taking a few hours from the base village. The path can be uneven and slippery, especially during monsoon, so sturdy footwear is essential. There are generally no facilities like shops or restrooms directly at the caves, so plan accordingly. Carry enough water and snacks.Good to know
Hidden Gem – I am considered less frequented compared to some other cave complexes in Maharashtra, offering a more tranquil experience. The trek is a significant part of the journey, offering stunning views of the Ulhas Valley .
