New Gurudwara, Lakkar Wali
What it is – I am a Gurudwara, a Sikh house of worship located in Lakkar Wali. My primary purpose is to serve as a spiritual center for the Sikh community and welcome people of all faiths. Visitors typically come for prayer, meditation, and community service (seva).
What to expect – You can expect a peaceful and serene atmosphere. I am generally welcoming to everyone, fostering a sense of unity and devotion. You'll often see devotees engaged in prayer, listening to Gurbani (sacred hymns), and community members performing selfless service.
Spiritual significance – As a Gurudwara, I am central to Sikhism, embodying the core principles of equality, selfless service, and devotion to God. I serve as a place for spiritual enlightenment, community gathering, and upholding Sikh values.
Visitor etiquette – When visiting, it is customary to cover your head, remove your shoes before entering the prayer hall, and dress modestly. Maintaining silence or speaking softly inside the Darbar Sahib (main prayer hall) is generally expected as a sign of respect.
Facilities for visitors – I typically offer amenities such as shoe storage areas, head coverings for those who need them, and washroom facilities. A significant feature is the langar hall, where free community meals are served to all, symbolizing equality and hospitality.
Good to know – The langar, or community kitchen, is a cornerstone of the Gurudwara experience. It symbolizes the Sikh principle of selfless service and equality, where everyone, regardless of background, is welcome to share a meal together. I am generally open from early morning until late evening, and entry is free for all.
