Chembra Peak, Kerala

WHAT IS THIS PLACE?

Mountain Peak – Chembra Peak is one of the highest peaks in the beautiful Wayanad district of Kerala . It's a significant part of the Western Ghats , known for its lush greenery and stunning natural landscapes.

WHY PEOPLE COME HERE

Trekking & Views – Many explorers like me come here primarily for the challenging yet rewarding trek to its summit or, more commonly, to the famous heart-shaped lake. The panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and distant hills are a major draw.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Nature's Embrace – You can expect a serene and invigorating experience, surrounded by dense forests, grasslands, and cool mountain air. The trek itself is a journey through diverse flora. It's generally a place for nature lovers and adventure seekers, offering a peaceful escape from urban life.

BEST TIME TO GO

Post-Monsoon – The ideal time to visit is typically from September to March. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are usually clear, offering the best visibility for the breathtaking views. Heavy monsoon season (June to August) can make trekking difficult and risky.

PRACTICAL INFO

Permits & Guides – Trekking to Chembra Peak requires a permit, which is usually obtained from the Meppadi Forest Range Office . A local guide is mandatory for the trek, ensuring safety and adherence to forest regulations. The trek usually takes about 3-4 hours to reach the heart-shaped lake and return.

GOOD TO KNOW

Heart Lake – The most iconic feature is Hridaya Sarassu, a natural heart-shaped lake located near the summit. It's believed to have never dried up. While the trek usually goes up to this lake, reaching the very top of the peak might be restricted by forest authorities.
